Is The Handmaiden House a shelter that provides temporary, emergency housing?
No, we are a Christ centered Maternity Home for women 18+ designed to help single mothers have a safe place to call home while equipping them to transform their lives. We are registered with the State of Georgia under Betsy’s law as a (MSHR) Maternity Supportive Housing Residence.
How much does your program cost?
There is no cost for our residents to live and participate in The Handmaiden House program.
What if I’m not pregnant and already had my baby, can I still apply?
The Handmaiden House can only accept women who are currently pregnant. First or Second Trimester is ideal to secure medical care.

Do I have to have insurance?
Yes, you need to have your Pregnancy Medicaid through the State of Georgia in place before arriving. This can usually be obtained during the intake process.
How long is the intake process?
2-3 weeks
How do I apply?
You will be called for a follow up phone interview by the next business day.
Can I have my own room?
No, The Handmaiden House has no private rooms, there are two single beds and two bassinets/baby beds per room.
What can I bring with me?
The Handmaiden House has very limited space and only allows one suitcase per person. Preferred toiletries, hair products, and makeup should be included in your suitcase. Any additional needs are met within the home.
Can I have visitors?
No, The Handmaiden House does not permit visitors in the home, but a mutual meeting place can be arranged off the property.
How long can I live at The Handmaiden House?
The Handmaiden House supports moms and babies for up to a year. All residents are expected to comply with program and house rules.
